Terence's formal education began in his early teens when he spent four years as an apprentice in the studio of master wood carver; Huber King.  During his lifetime, Mr. King was nationally renowned for his wood carvings and sculpture. It was during this period of Terence's education that he learned the importance of drawing and the introduction of color. Later, he attended Evangel College where he studied with Warren Stratton a sculptor and violin maker, among many other things.  Leaving Evangel, he attended Kent State University and his art studies were continued. Terence left Kent State after some time deciding that he needed to use this formal training to self-educate.  He felt this was necessary in order to compose and execute art in a meaningful expression.  At age 52, he claims this self instruction and indulgence is ongoing.

As an young man he supported his family by in many different capacities, most of which involved working with and in engineering departments as a technical illustrator, draftsman and design engineer. Prior to the computer revolution this type of detailed drawing was done by hand and Terence was able to refine his draftsmanship and line technique to a very high standard.  The experiences of drawing everyday with pencil instilled discipline and his technique flourished.

Despite his advancing technical proficiency there was a period of about 25 years that Terence did not produce or exhibit any artwork.  When he opened a small framing business in 2000 he began to experiment with the leftover pieces of mat board and in 2001 his “Drawing with Color” period began.  Having exhibited in Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky and Florida, Terence is always on the lookout for new venues.   If you are interested in finding out more about Terence or his artwork, please email him via the link above.
